A love of Littleborough has inspired an author to pen her first book. Temptation - a tale influenced by the character of the Pennine town's people and places - is Denise Greenwood's debut literary venture - and one which has seen her realise her childhood dreams. Despite the evocative title, Denise assures her debut is not her answer to the raunchy '50 Shades of Grey' series, instead telling the story of a vicar struggling with his demons in today's society.

But after thinking up the basic character for Temptation, I just sat down one day and before I knew it, I'd written the first chapter. Denise worked for 16 years in retail training and operations, before her firm's offer of redundancy gave her the opportunity she needed to pursue a career in writing. She was working 40 hours a week when she wrote Temptation inbut gave up her other job to dedicate her time to the art.

Inspiration for her first novel came from local scenery and locations, which formed the basis of the vicar's home town, Littlecross, as well as Denise's Catholic upbringing and childhood memories. She was born in Blackpool, moving to Manchester asand settled in Littleborough 20 years ago with husband, Jerry. The couple have a son, year-old Rees. But I fell in love with the scenery and landscape and many of the people I've known and places I've been to have inspired parts of the story.

I was brought up with a rum sense of humour and I think this, as well as a good story, is the main theme of my writing.
